About 75 minutes
Your first visit, in order
Later visits take about 45 minutes.
- 01
Step 1: Before you come
If your care comes through the VA or a claim, the front desk checks it with you first.
- 02
Step 2: Check-in
A short form for your contact details and a list of what you take. It asks nothing about your pain.
- 03
Step 3: A conversation
Your acupuncturist asks about your work, your sleep and what you want from the visit, then does a pattern assessment.
- 04
Step 4: Treatment
You lie down or sit, the needles go in and you rest for 20 to 30 minutes. Say so if anything is too much.
- 05
Step 5: A plan
Before you leave, you get a suggested plan and a written note of what we did.
Getting ready
What to wear and bring
Wear loose clothes
Shorts or sleeves that roll up past the elbow and knee are plenty. We drape you with a sheet.
Eat something first
Come after a meal, not on an empty stomach, and have water.
Bring your papers
Your authorization letter or claim number, photo ID and a list of everything you take.
Tell us first
Tell your acupuncturist before the first needle if you:
Are or might be pregnant
Take blood thinners
Have a pacemaker
Are afraid of needles
